Pakistan Diabetes Leadership Forum 2014
The Pakistan Diabetes Leadership Forum 2014 was held in Islamabad on 1-2 March with the aim of discussing possible policies and actions to help address the diabetes challenge in Pakistan and the wider region.
The Forum gathered more than 250 opinion leaders, policy makers and partners in public health as well as 60 media and was held in full plenary with speeches and panel discussions involving diabetes experts and international organisations. The plenary sessions were followed by workshops, where delegates discussed capacity building, policy and advocacy planning, primary prevention and awareness at the community level, and diabetes care programmes at the national level.
The recommended actions from each of the workshops will result in the ‘Islamabad call to action’ document, which is meant to help drive policy changes and feed into a National Diabetes Action Plan developed in collaboration between the local Diabetes Advisory Board and the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, Government of Pakistan.
The Pakistan Diabetes Leadership Forum 2014 was hosted by the Ministry of National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, Government of Pakistan. The Forum was co-hosted by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the World Diabetes Foundation (WDF), the Diabetic Association of Pakistan (DAP), the Baqai Institute of Diabetology & Endocrinology (BIDE), the Pakistan Endocrine Society, the Sakina Institute of Diabetes and Endocrine Research (SiDER) and the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), and supported by Novo Nordisk.
